Tarladalal Vs Sanjeev Kapoor – Online Reciepe which portal is better for indian cooking

If you do a usability testing of both the sites Tarladalal.com people are reading my blog. Their site is not only evolving day by day with addition of new data and better data mining tools implemented on the site. On the other hand sanjeevkapoor.com looks like an attemp to earn from the brand name great chef has an playing on pure e-commerce play of selling ingridents and cookbooks online.

Though both the sites have users contributed reciepes. There is still scope for improvement for increasing user collabration. example forum for people to discuss on improving the reciepes. Tips for first time cooks and list of ingridents they should have if setting up a kitchen. I remember my out of college bachelor days when first time i decided to start cooking at home rather than being dependent on Mcdonalds and chinese takeaway. I went into local super market and did shopping worth 120$ which was pretty much waste as was working on basic idea on shelf life of items and their storage technique. As these sites are being accessed by lot of newcomers they should also provide basic information for new commers. Now i know 200$ worth of grocery shopping is good enough for whole month of cooking at home. But it would have surely helped in first 3-4 months when cooking was restricted to major indian dishes like butter chicken, dal makhni and lot of time was spent online getting the reciepes right and rest on phone taking instructions from india.

Getting back to the sites. Their is no dearth of information both the sites can provide. But better indexability can improve/help people discover and cherish the knowledge being delivered by these great chefs.

    Dear Siddharth,

    very nice

Arati though its helpful but it doesnt solve my idea on tips for items to stock in kitchen. Or like a kitchen management utility where every month i enter grocery items i brought and automatically it creates 7 days food plan.

i liked eat.epicurious.com , it may have the short comings about not being of help to beginners but the site in itself has a very attractive look and feel

Tarla Dalal is the mother of cooking. so dont compare her. her quality is that her recipe is always precise. you take same amount of stuf she tells you and your food will be perfect.

both r very good in there profsions.but the is that the one who designed the tarla dalal web site is much more good than sanjeev k. site.

    Hi,

Well I feel Tarla’s cooking and Sanjeev’s cooking are too different things to compare with.

Tarla’s is more on the regular authentic home food and more easy to plan while Sanjeev’s is too formal kind of a cooking. Both have their own way of presentation as well.

So for your daily cooking or even kids special one would only opt to check Tarla’s while for party time its sure gonna hunting in Sanjeev’s site.

    GREAT !!!!!

Ya, True. Even I like Taraladalalal’s recipes.

  12. 12 suz November 16, 2007 at 8:56 pm

    Hi,

I have surfed both the sites and the basic difference:
1)Tarla Dalal’s site is more user friendly and precise
2)You do not need to plan to make Tarla’s receipes almost all the ingredients will definetly be at home u can make one whenever u wnat!!!

    Cheers

    how to preserve green peas??

  14. 14 krithika December 21, 2007 at 3:50 pm

tarladalal is definitely user friendly and fool proof.
Sanjeev kapoor has more brand value but it is more like a catering industry to read his books , even the ingredients he uses are regio specific . eg bakarwadi or soya wadi etc we dont even know the ingredients which are used to make a wadi. so obviously we wont try doing that recipe .
with tarladalal her inputs of milk and curd to wonders to the recipe.
My only prayer is that, given the fact that tarla ji’s office is expanding let the recipes that they churn out have the ratios and proportions according to tarla ji’s instructions and let it not be handled by the junior catering staff.

you should check this new site i found and i think it is better than both sanjeev and tarla sites , this site has free video of many dishes
the site is http://www.vahrehvah.com , and this is a pretty new website so it is changing veryoften

  18. 18 de January 7, 2008 at 4:08 am

I think tarla dalal’s website is much better than Sanjeev’s website, which is under construction for more than a month so you cant access to any recipies. His customer service is awful too.
And yes his recipies are good only for parties, but not for everyday.

  19. 19 sonia January 8, 2008 at 8:55 pm

    ya its true,
tarla’s recepie are more good 4 the people who r having small budget and sanjeev’s are high class people.
i prefer tarla’s one cos they r cheep 2 prepare and
    fast 2 made.
