With recent news of makemytrip.com recieving another round of funding. Keeping in mind its growth objective to reach project 600 crores revenues by next year. All this based on common calculation ground of indians willingness to choose their portal as first destination for making online air tickets reservations. As rest assure we all know this is what is deriving revenues for any travel portal today.
Though makemytrip.com is a brand name in existance for a while the target market has been the NRI segment which means mainly concentrating on inbound traffic. The infrastructure exist and so does strategy and execution experience. hence the funding will be used for creating brand name in india leveraging on existing customer base vouching/swearing on their services. This is the reason with whatever amount of funding coming in all travel portals have fair shot and makemytrip.com doesnt have any first mover advantage as pointed out by many bloggers.
Would be intersting to know some stats provided by airlines on how the business is flowing via portals as compared to their own sites.

BEWARE OF YATRA: They entice you with deceptive offers, take money from your credit card and they try to confuse you!!!
Here is a public service announcement for corporations and busy individuals who may not notice money wrongly being removed from them by an organisation they assume is legitimate, or have time to resolve problems:
Yatra, a relatively new entrant to the Indian travel scene, which is spending huge sums on marketing, and regularly runs enticing promotions, is likely to cost you more than you think, without you knowing it.
I recently purchased flights from them, and then when I came to make a repeat purchase, signed up for one of their special offers. The small print of this special offer gave me the option of paying part of the amount later, but instead Yatra demanded extra money at the time of payment. The end result: they took money from my card without my authority, and ignore emails sent to them querying their actions. My likely next step is to go to a lawyer, but how many organisations or busy individuals will do this, if the even notice the over-charging?
So, if you think have been tricked by Yatra (and they will try to deceive you into thinking that you, or someone else is to blame), please send me a short email, and depending upon the response, my company may take further action, with a view to forcing Yatra to modify their behaviour, or pay financial compensation to everyone they have mis-treated.

Cheating ka guru-Travelguru
I would want others to stay away from travelguru as I have had a really bad experience. I had booked a hotel through travelguru for Dec 22-Dec 25 in Sarovar Portico, Manali. Due to some unforseen circumstances, I had to cancel my booking on 15th Dec. As per the booking voucher, I was supposed to get refund – deduction of one nights room and taxes. However, I was shocked to see the cancellation voucher which I recieved which mentions that the refund amount is zero. So, travelguru has very cleverly cancelled my booking and refunded me zero amount.
Incase you want to book over the telephone, your call would be connected instantly to a customer care executive. God forbid if you want to cancel your booking over the telephone. You would be lucky if your call gets connected in 45 minutes and you get to talk to a customer care executive. All you hear is a executive coming on the line every 10 minutes saying that the systems are running a bit slow.
Overall a very bad experience.

As we are entering in travel 3.0 phase where the peers reviews on a destination or a hotel will matter, online travel agencies will have to realize and wake up to the fact that the opinion matters.Today we hear a lot about how cleartrip.com has not returned money, when an air ticket has been cancelled or how a hotel reservation got sour.
Most of the OTAs have already realized the potential of a captive audience and how they can form an opinion using the power of captive audience, whether to use a particular website for ticket or holiday bookings or not? Makemytrip and Yatra has already launched their travel community portal called oktatabyebye.com and raahi.com. There is another player, Holidayiq, which I guess has got some funding. Now, a new player which I came across is called <a href=”http://www.travelobuddies.com” title=”travelobuddies.com” . On the lines of ok and raahi, this has got few interesting concepts like home stay, travel bazaar and travel news which I think will certainly be of value to people.

I agree with the others that Travelguru is a cheat of the cheats!!! I had made a booking for a business trip for two in chennai in a 4 star hotel thru travelguru.As the business plan changed my visit dates to Chennai also changed, but Travelguru refused to refund any amount!!! I called up the hotel which informed me that they receive payment from travelguru only after the guest has completed his stay!! whereas on speaking to numerous(each time a different executive !!) at Travelguru, they assured me that payment had already been sent to the hotel.
Basically, Travelguru has pocketed the entire money(Rs. 18000/- plus)!!! and to top it all, they send me mailers and feedback forms!!!
they are the biggest cheats and should be definitely booked!!

My experience with Yatra has been otherwise Big names like Reliance and TV18 etc does not necessarily mean that the service rendered would be world clsss. While it looks nice to see things on their Portal, on the ground reality is different ! I had done Hotel bookings thru them this April for a family holiday in May and to my surprise even after the money was 100%charged in advance to my CC, I found the Hotels refusing to confirm the bookings. On notifying the anomaly to them, an11th hour attempt by Yatra yielded result and they found a hotel some 145 kms away from my destination ! Finally I had to search a hotel which was reluctantly booked by yatra but was still some 20kms from the downtown area and I had to pay thru my nose everyday for an up-down travel by taxi. One one such occasion we al had to walk 3 kms and face humiltion at the hand of Taxi drivers and seek help from police to avert a situation.
In the other case, I was offered a very dingy cottage (one can call it a servant room) at a resort instead of a room booked and confirmed thru them. After hours long arguments, I had to check in at another hotel and pay thru my nose.
The very purpose of going on a vacation with family, with advance bookings done, is to enjoy a hassle free vacation but that is the last of the concerns with the people at Yatra. Till date, despite so many reminders, Yatra has not even bothered to call back and apologise. Their sales manager Arpit Seth has no empathy for the poor clients. Net net, my vacation was royally sc***d and my family keeps cursing me for no fault of mine.

hi i called travel guru to book a hotelfor dehli 0n 4th sept 2008 i was told that viram hotel was 4star and the best rate from travel guru. when i arrived at the hotel it wasnt 4 star and the room was worst then my shed.
