Today, the number of deal merchants have also gone up on the lines of online retailers . It is becoming diffult for online retailers to provide their catalogue to all these merchants.

I also suggest that all online retailer should join hands and compete with the offline market. Today we have the largest online catalogue of branded watches while some other portals have their expertise in Apparels, Electronics etc. Joining hands would add value to both organisations. Rather than treating each other as competitors, lets treat each other as friends competing with the offline retailers with plans to bring more and more customers online.

Lets come together and build a strong online foundation.

I think that as the e-commerce ecosystem evolves in India sites like dealmaadi and tolmol will gain relevance. As of now though I don't think there is anything worth comparing out there. Thats why we have started a new online store www.flipkart.com which is currently selling books. The idea is to be fully customer centric, one thing that is totally lacking in the major e-comm players right now. Do give it a try. You won't be dissapointed.

@sarath ks

Ya its true about http://www.storrz.com
I had recently shopped from that site!
The grocery shopping is the first of its kind in India!
But it would be better if they could add other items like electronic goods!

Overall its a good site!

Another online shopping portal has recently launched in bangalore named http://www.storrz.com They have introduced grocery shopping online and have come up with a cool user friendly interface which will ease the shopping experience online.They also assure one day delivery on purchase and have very good payment options like paying by sodexho meal pass,credit/debit card online and on delivery.I think storrz.com will become a good competitor in the online shopping industry in india.

Absolutely agree with the response to the last question. ecommerce in India is in its nascent stages and looks poised to grow with travel sector being the clear leader. Once we start seeing some activity, a lot of supporting business models will emerge and the very important one being affiliate marketing and CPC lead generation. Once the e-tailers realize the importance of this channel, getting data feeds from them should be pretty easy. I say this from experience working at one of such companies in the US.

Sanjay Mehta from homeindia.com has written some really insightful comments at our post at http://ileher.com/2007/01/12/how-to-indianize-your-ecommerce-site/ from his personal experience running an ecommerce site for 8 years now. Its very interesting how the dynamics of Indian markets are so different from that in the West. But things usually find their way and I hope we soon have our own Amazon.com and other elements in the ecommerce.
