ICICI Bank Payseal Payment Gateway – Not Recommended!!!

As part of e-commerce consulting projects we do lot of people are not able to decide which payment gateway service provider to go for.  In early days when their used to be alternative between ICICI and Citibank. ICICI used to be the preferred service provider due to competetive costing and caring nature towards the customer.

But over last 36 months we have seen drastic change in quality level of service provided by ICICI payment gateway. 6 Months back during peak sales season for one of our site using their paymet gateway services since 2001 they withdrew master card service. This lead to immediate loss of 40% of our customers based on previous years record.

What really got us all worked up was not the reason they withdrew Master card service but they did it based on following reasons

i) Account selected by Master card for audit

ii) ICICI bank does not have any say in the process

Worst part was all of these actions were being taken on our account without any notification forget WRITTEN NOTIFICATION. Our  team has been following up with ICICI bank since thevn for a written response on why services had been withdrawn and why they have not been restored. Till date we have not received any response and all effort to get a response from people higher up in management has failed to entice any response.

On the other hand we begin dealing with AXIS BANK (UTI BANK) which have been supportive in finding alternative by trying to get response from master card why we cannot operate as a merchant and what we could possibly do to restore back master card service on our site. They also have a better technology interface and leaves you out the hassle for forcing customer to goto bank server for processing of credit cards. They are offering much more competitive rates but more than that consulting and advise which every first step internet merchant would find useful.

My Recommendation is to stay away  from ICICI Bank payseal payment gateway services if you would like to have trouble free online merchant experience.

Same issue happened with us also. Also now the ebs (axis bank) guys also stopped mastercard approval for IT companies.

I don’t know what is happening with Indian Payment Gateways 😦

  4. 7 Priti Shah October 4, 2007 at 3:20 pm

Hi, I am the Head of Operations for EBS. We have stopped processing IT companies temporary as we need to abide by Mastercard laws with due respect to the bank. As soon as we start approving we will definately process IT companies and give due justice to them.

You can contact me for any further queries

      Dear Ms. Priti,

You bank guys have started behaving like money-lenders during British-Raj, what is “Mastercard Laws”? Is there anything like law of the land, RBI Instructions, which makes you atleast inform the companies or sectors before discriminating.

      Hi Priti,
Couple of weeks ago I applied for payment gateway services for my website. After around 21 day’s your staff reverted back to me that Citi Bank doesn’t accept real estate. They should be aware before hand that real estate is black listed, unnecessarily the waisted my 3 weeks.Any way it it is nice to see view of payment gateway provider.

We are a indian company and just 2 years we have tried 5 Payment gateway on our website and still searching for best.

Regsoft (not a shopping cart experienct)
    Verisign(Payflow Pro) (merchant bank issue)

Paypal(Withdraw limit of $2500 Per Month only)

Dear ASHISH, I will appreciate if you can detail out your experience ( about shortcomings) with different gateways. We are in the process of looking at ccAvenue, Payseal & ICICI.

    Regards

  11. 17 Umesh Dhingra November 10, 2007 at 8:09 pm

I tried ICICI website for Payseal – http://www.icicibank.com/pfsuser/cards/creditcard/cc_merchantservicesclick.htm#payseal. Couldnot get their charges.

Could not get any contact no.

For further details, I tried their Corporate Phone banking. They are advising us to visit the nearest branch. I doubt how good it will be for SMEs?

Please share your experiences for ICICI Payseal.

  12. 19 Priti Shah November 11, 2007 at 8:19 pm

    Hi

I have been receiving emails for queries relating approving of IT companies. I would like to add that we approve IT companies but have restrictions on IT services that are non tangible and infact all service providers in India have to abide by Mastercard rules.

Also I have been reading about the choice of payment gateways in India, for which I would add that it depends on your business model, your check points for choosing an ideal payment gateway viz a choice between an Indian or foreign gateway, prices versus services versus customer support. It solely depends on what client base, products and your projection of sales & businesss in the e-commerce market.

  13. 20 jb jigar November 16, 2007 at 3:55 pm

Hi, great support. I am developer of http://www.machinejunction.com. We are currently using paypal payment gateway. Our clients have to suffer problems in completion of the payment process and sometime payment is not going to complete. So I am looking for ICICI’s payseal, but now I think it takes time to decide.
    Thanks

  14. 22 Jhigyasa November 20, 2007 at 1:05 am

You are right, ccavenue is easily the best bet. We are a web development company and they are given us the pg. Lots of payment options, nice backend and good service. Far better than ICICI Payseal who suddenly turned off our pg without any notice. Worst, they blocked rs 90,000 lying in our bank account as lien. We have used them for 3 years with just 1 chargeback. A real nightmarish experience for us.

  15. 23 binny bansal November 21, 2007 at 1:07 am

Payment gateways are the thorn in the flesh of indian e-commerce. And the worst part is that you cannot build one if you are not a bank or if u dont have a very close tie-up with a bank. So no one can think of starting up in this area without lots of capital.

It took us ( http://www.flipkart.com ) about 2 months to get approval from EBS for their gateway. If one looks at the websites of their other customers it surely makes you wonder why are they not running after worthy customers instead of delaying them with all the red tape.

Their is a big big opportunity in India in the payments domain. If someone can make it painless to receive payments we might see a lot more startups in the e-commerce space. As of now we have to live with what we got.

  16. 29 Sahil November 24, 2007 at 2:19 am

Even I’m looking for a gateway for my site…Paypal is best bet for now especially when they started transferring funds to Indian Bank Account with very low cost and no cost if withdrawal is over Rs. 7000.00

The only problem is currency, they do not accept INR.

I contacted their support developer team, they replied that INR will be started soon. But no one knows, what they mean by SOON.

Anyhow, if one finds a quick, cheap and reliable gateway provider, please contact me too…

has any one tried HSBC ?

ICICI still says on their site that you can

“process Visa and MasterCard Credit Cards issued around the globe. ”

    http://www.icicibank.com/pfsuser/cards/creditcard/cc_merchantservicesclick.htm

I wonder if the website companies can sue these banks for misinformation.

  24. 39 deepak jagtiani December 25, 2007 at 12:02 pm

    Hello,

EBS has wasted our three months in reaching to the conclusion that we do not fulfill their required criteria.
We are into exports since 2003, we do not sell our products in local market. We are already dealing with FOREX department of Axis bank- receiving payments every second day.
The stupid reasons because of which they do not approved our payment gateway were as following
They say that we do not have a glow sign outside our office.
Our office is not located at some very prime commercial area of city and when their person came for verification no customers were present in our office.
If all this things are necessary then what is the difference between a web mechant and general merchant?
The person who came to my office for verification is incharge of verification of two wheeler finance- he came in with a verification form which is used for allotmment of card machines to shopkeepers.
When I first contacted EBS they said that it will take only a week for process.
In three months they demanded more then 20 documents- they lost my documents and then again demanded documents.
Axis bank has done tie up with a very unprofessional company-EBS who do not even have enough number of employees to do the work in time.
If any one is interested in dealing with EBS- ask them to complete the verification process- give money to them only after that.
Payment gateway companies must realize that they are only providing us an alternate medium for receiving money.
    DeepakJagtiani.

  25. 40 Kingston January 9, 2008 at 3:51 pm

Have you accepted high value transfers through CC Avenue. It will take a long procedure to get that amount

All the gateways have a pathetic customer support.

ICICI has the worst model where the tech support and technical team are always at loggerheads

  26. 41 Kritic Roshan January 15, 2008 at 3:31 pm

    Dear All,

My company is a victim of EBS Payment Gateway. Do ask the following questions and take an email reply, before you sign-up…
    1. How many Banks are they live with?
    2. Do they have a 24 hours customer service – a landline no.?
    3. Do they service on Religious, Regional Holidays?
    4. DO they have a support ticket/complaint no. system?
    5. What is the time required to test and make this up?
    5. What is the average time it would take for any issue to be solved?

A 24 hours landline no. is important over a EPABX, which does not allow the receiver to see the no. and have the choice not to pick-up the call. We have faced similar problems with some other Indian Cos. like Rediff’s Enterprise Pro (Business Email Service)

Process are supposed to be process-driven and cant be people driven. They say that they are in a transitionary phase after you have made the payment for their service. Before payment, there is no indication, that they are not ready with complete support.

I will not recommend anyone to take EBS. They would bargain on the commercials unlike CC Avenue (at approx. 3.5%) but are way behind CC Avenue in terms of Customer Responsiveness and Readyness.

Their replies to complaints are also very arrogant…almost saying “We are perfect”…You will see a reply soon from EBS, which would have these unwritten words..

    Cheers
    Kritic Roshan..

  27. 42 Suresh Nair January 15, 2008 at 3:36 pm

Guys try EBS Help Desk at anytime…during the day and see…it never works…

  28. 43 Priti Shah January 15, 2008 at 7:13 pm

    Dear Mr Kritic,

I take this opportunity to respond on your claims & for tasking EBS by probably what one can assume as an isolated experience. I assure you that our support systems are very much in place and working. One cannot generalize by any single incident that you claim to have experienced.

We would have never survived service industry without the required customer support. The fact that we are following & have complied with PCI DSS norms has been appreciated by Mastercard to award us MSP status & put us in league with some of world’s most secure IPG providers.

Updates are an inevitable part of the IT industry and if you would like to take EBS to task for updating our systems to provide better services, I am at a loss of words.

I’m sure even all our competitors do not offer all banks & thus are always in the process of adding new banks to provide additional services to their merchants. Banks again have their own time to comply and cannot be questioned owing to administrative & security issues involved.

You would be aware that it is inevitable for our business model to offer more banks as it multiplies the opportunity for more business. Thus it would be evident that there we would leave no stone unturned to get maximum banks online, ASAP.

Our constitution and blogs advocate freedom of speech and expression which is often used to generalize the unfaltering efforts of diligent employees, with probably a single isolated experience that can mar their lifelong industrious efforts employed for the same.

I assume my reply on the blog in a short time depicts the prompt service and replies provided, also on a holiday.

I accept your suggestions in true spirit & if you are a vicitm of EBS, than I am sure you can email us the same with your true identity & give us a reasonable time for responding. I would like to advocate the fact that confidence in our systems should not be misconstrued, as arrogance. The very fact that also mobile numbers are provided for support itself establishes that we go to the last mile to provide efficient support.

If you are the same person who called us today then please note that none of the numbers provided by you are answering calls from our support team. I am sure that reputed companies like yours don’t switch from our competitors with intention of defaming EBS, but only to get the required service.

If you are an EBS client I request you to provide us a rational opportunity to resolve your issues & I can confidently assure that you will be happy to find our services equally competent & efficient.

Also for others who read the above comments can email for any queries to me in order to resolve them instead of resorting to comment on blogs before ascertaining complete facts.

    Best Regards,

    EBS Team

  29. 44 Kritic Roshan January 15, 2008 at 10:10 pm

    Hello Ms. Priti,

Needless to say, blogs are not meant to defame anyone, but express views and help a forum to decide. None of my points mentioned above can be proven wrong.

Your writing words like “claims”, and “task” show that you didnt like what is written.

The case is not isolated please.

Why dont you answer questions in YES or NO.

    1. Do you have a 24 hours customer service – a landline no.?
    2. Do you service on Religious, Regional Holidays?
    3. DO you have a support ticket/complaint no. system?
    4. What is the time required to test and make this up?
    5. What is the average time it would take for any issue to be solved?
    6. Is PayPal closed for Christmas?
    7. Are CCAvenue, ICICI Bank, HDFC Banks not having 24 hours service?

There are huge no. of companies which are mentioned above and in many blogs surviving, due to absence of knowledge and information about those companies. They dont provide good service, but they survive, because every victim, does not raise its voice in a forum.
In customer service, If you have 1 complaint, the problem is 10X.

Blogs have been created to express opinion, independently and without bias.

Please take the comments in spirit, and try to improve…It will help.

    Cheers!

  30. 45 Priti Shah January 16, 2008 at 12:24 pm

    Dear Mr Kritic,

Business doesnt work on likes & dislikes so the question of me not liking what you have written doesnt arise. What surprises me is that even after getting a support call & reply by email to your office on the same day, the way you depict is that we have been not responding for days & days. The symptoms like “I am a victim”, “Do not go for EBS” definately show that you are on “task”. And if your not, than I appreciate that.

All my competitors what you have just mentioned, I have seen the support So “NO COMMENTS”. I assume, I have already proven your points wrong as the call, replies were given on holidays, your call & queries were taken care of on the same day & your problem was resolved in 24 hours, which i hope is a fair average time for resloving issues. I have already taken all the comments in the whole blog in spirit & thats the reason I am replying and i hope you do the same.
i hope I have answered all your queries.

I am sure that we will serve you better in the future for a long term association

Lastly thanks for giving an opportunity to serve,

    Best regards

    Priti

      Dear Ms. Priti,

You should have replied his queries with Yes/No. I don understand that being a reputed bank you are employed to do sort of a PR job and reduce damages caused by in-efficient system / staff of your bank.

Hope such blogs improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your System /Staff

    Dear Friends,

I have a good news for you, a german based company is going to lounch its Payment Gateway in Feb 2008, which supports all types of credit cards and there is not limit on funds transfer. they supports all types of currency and good news is that they support INR also. even their charges are also very low. and no security deposites like indian banks and other indian payment gateways. they also provide all plugins to supports all types of shopping carts like oscommerce, and others. and free chargebacks.

so wait for Feb 2008. if you are looking for a relable payment gataway. in this payment gateway funds will be maintened in Germany. no there os no role of indian banks so forget about the slow customer response from indian banks.

On Feb 6th onward i am going to implemnt it to my website.

    with regards,

    Birender

  32. 49 ahmed February 6, 2008 at 6:51 pm

My company is setting up an ecommerce site and are looking for a reliable payment gateway in India. can anyone suggest one? Is transecute a viable option?

  33. 50 jessgeojose February 8, 2008 at 2:15 pm

    Hi Birender

Its the 8th of Feb and I dont see any new company providing a new payment gateway. If it has started please share it with us. I am hell bent on getting something new when compared to the crap we have in the market right now as far as payment gateways are concerned.

I have tried out all three EBS, ICICI payseal and ccavenue in the past.

ICICI payseal was the worst of the lot. After going through 6 months of getting approvals, troubleshooting integrations and errors in payments and a terrible support system, just when we decided to take up the final merchant ID, Mastercard payments disappeared from the payment options. When asked about when it will be restarted, I got a reply 3 weeks later, that they didnt know. At that point, I asked or the money that I had paid to be refunded and to accept cancellation of my account. It took them a further 3 months to return the money and countless calls to their offices spread across Chennai, Hyderabad and Bombay.

Surprisingly, even though CCAvenue looks shady by standards for payment gateways outside of India, it certainly, gives a better service than any of the others have. If they can match it with charged customization options, to make the payment process look seamless, while still maintaining security levels, they have a chance to grow and expand a lot.

Hope you will get back to all of us soon Birender

  34. 51 Birender February 15, 2008 at 4:05 pm

    Dear Friends,

The service is launched, I have intergraded with my website also, and it’s very fast in processing payments and it uses 256 bit encryption. I have integrated it on 9th Feb and till now my website processed more then 157 orders and keep continuing…, now I am using free account for testing period once I satisfied with the service then I will upgrade it to Business Class Merchant Account, but in testing period its very fast and it also very secure on every page you visit it check your login session and IP address and Mac address if during checkout process your IP or session is changed then it will automatically divert you to the starting page and also give the “hacking attempt message” I am a Internet Payment gateway security expert so I tried to check it in all ways and I found that this website is using all measures to protect the customers so during this period till date my website process the payment more then a 1.8 Lakhs. And it also supports IPN Instant payment notifications system. If any customer made any payment it automatically updates both parties who pay and the person who receives.

This website is not authorized the persons to direct registration in order to use this payment gateway you need an invitation to register to this website. Send me your email id to birendersinghbudhwar@bsbdm.redirectme.net so that I will send you the link to get register.

They have not given on the TV or Newspaper, even I also got the information from one of my friend he is in Germany he forward me the information. That one new payment gateway is going to introduce in India.

    With regards,

    Birender Singh

    Hi Biender,

Rather than shamelessly advertising about you/your friends services and why don’t you give the facts and provide the correct information about the payment gateway. I think all you are referring here is your home made vaporware which you probably want to sell with the OSCOMMERCE look alike clone.

Cmmon..show us that your talks are real or would you again end up trying to hijack this thread ??

    Cheers !

      Dear Ashish,

Who are you, may I know whether you are a Merchant, A Cardholder OR else an Employee yourself working in the bank.
If you are an employee, why don’t you provide your own number to all in order for the basic information about the HDFC’s gateway model, charges, pre-requisites etc….

  38. 56 sudhir April 10, 2008 at 9:57 am

still, there is no perfect answer for payment gateway. I think all you in this thread, need to vote and let us know why do you vote for it.

I am about to sign up for a payment gateway. I read all the comments and it appears that CCAvenue is the best option. I live in U.S, here most of the payment gateways charge 1.5-1.9% per transaction and no set up fee. I wonder why Indian companies charge 5-7% per transaction and charge Rs.20-25K for set up fee.

Oh my God! After reading all threads… i am actually confused… no one has the right answer… Well, i’ve read a comment on CCAvenue and I don’t want to setup with them. (http://www.whoisdeep.com/2006/10/08/indian-payment-gateways-a-big-joke/)

I am going to launch a gift shop soon but still searching for an online payment gateway.

If anyone has the answer. Please suggest.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Friends,

Not sure where this is gooing but I am looking for the list of “active” providers. Is there any one else in this whole country than CC Avenue? I am really surprised. I am told ICICI Payseal is blocked for MasterCard since they did not comply with PCI (Payment Card Industry) standards. Can anyone share with me a link or a place to get the active player who are really useful!!!

    Any help would be appreciated

We plan to build a world class Payment Gateway for Indai and would look forward to suggestion and experienced personnel

  44. 62 Birender Singh Budhwar July 7, 2008 at 10:34 pm

    Hi Harish,

Your suggestions are very good to start a payment gateway is not a big problem, any one can start payment gateway after registration a company and get it approved by some lows like money laundry act.

The only think you have to chose a authorisations server for your back end server, which process the credit cards.

Even i am also going to start a payment gateway, within a few months may be by This September 2008, my engineers are working on it and its almost on final stage. payment will be processed in USD/ EURO/GBP/AUD etc but at present INR is not supported by my payment gateway because its for international client. but can be used for India also.

  45. 64 Shilpi July 16, 2008 at 12:30 pm

I am also looking at payment gateway options for my website. I have gone through the comments above, which leaves me confused because it looks like there are issues with all PG options available in India.

Can anybody suggest (while taking into considerations, the problems being faced in using the above PGs) which is the best among all?

  46. 65 Birender July 16, 2008 at 12:42 pm

    Hi, Shilpi,

You can use this new payment gateway globill.com its a South Africa based payment gateway and it supports almost all currencies including INR. with very low transaction charges when compare to Indian payment gateways.

Best thing is that here is no setup fee and not annual fee its free to sign up and start accepting your payment on line enjoy…

    with regards,

I dont know about the other payment gateways but know Paypal…The problem is billing is in US$…They claim 3.5% TDR but the 2 way rupee to dollar and dollar to rupee eat up 8-10% on an average…Next tried getting HDFC payment gateway…Attarctions were TDR of 2.5% and payments available the next day…Alas wasted 6 months pursuing them..They ask for a security deposit of Rs 5 lakhs…are mainly interested in making money from already established players…not looking forward to EBS and CC Avenue…

  48. 68 Shiv July 24, 2008 at 6:37 pm

I have worked and technically integrated with ICICI’s PaySeal Payment Gateway for close to 5 years now. The technical support is NOT knowledgeable AT ALL. In fact I had to patch their backend libraries myself. Otherwise no major ‘&^%$#’ ups with ICICI. BUT you lose out on AMEX. CC Avenue does not offer to ISP’s and Web Development companies i was told today. At max they offer only net banking.

Harish, If you’re really serious about building a payment gateway, I’ll be glad to help. I’m quite fed up with the lack of options available. There is also a MAJOR bottleneck in the method used by payment gateways for businesses like ISP’s. I’ll skip that however since they are not relevant to this discussion trail.

  49. 69 Srikanth Eswaran July 26, 2008 at 11:55 am

    Hi there folks

I ve had trouble just making a payment using the icici payment gateway. always for the credit card i use, they ask me for my bank login/pwd, and when i do enter it, they reject my payment for reasons best known to them.

for once why the hell cant icici just publish in bold letters somewhere on their website how the hell to register for this service. Online shopping/banking is not new to me and I ve been using it since the past 10 years (I was one of the first few in this country to try all this out, I can confidently say), and now due to constraints from visa/mastercard international, all indian banks get into such gimmicks of 3d secure payment gateways.

I would anyday vouch for ccavenue as a much better payment gateway without much gimmicks as far as users are concerned. Life is all about making simpler choices and not making customers hassle around with payments. This will only dampen the spirit of online shopping and defeat the very purpose it was created for.

I am definitely going to write an article on this on my own blog (http://blog.chowchowbath.com) after having many such experiences ranging from online shopping for thousands of rupees to even booking simple movie tickets. Harrowing Experience really.

Take care while dealing with such things on the net.
Time is precious, choose the simplest option.

Does anyone have any experience with abcpayments.com?

    • 71 Sandeep October 12, 2009 at 6:52 pm

From what I know, ABCPAYMENTS.COM and TRANSECUTE.COM closed down some time back and both have been taken over by CCAvenue.com. Its becoming a virtual monopoly of ccavenues in the payments space in India.

  52. 74 Susan September 23, 2008 at 12:45 am

I totally agree with Prem Joshi of ICICI Bank. I am Asst Manager-Marketing at CCAvenue. The reason IT companies, Domain name registrars, web hosting service providers find it difficult to get their applications of merchant accounts approved is because a lot of frauds have been happening at these kind of sites. There are cases of cardholder frauds and in some cases of merchant frauds. Some web development companies like http://www.technolozy.com (Kaushik Rajani / Deepak Mehta of Delhi) have cheated banks of crores of rupees by perprating a systematic fraud with a help of their friends from India, estonia etc.. It is just not them alone but a lot of other IT providers from the industry has also done the same over the years. Therefore card companies have slotted IT services as a high risk category and are generally slotted along with other high risk category merchants like online gambling / pornography etc.. Since IT companies products / services are delivered online, hence it makes it easy for the fraudster who has access to stolen card numbers to perpetrate fraud on IT companies. In business, nobody wants to throw away oppurtunies of processing more and nore transactions of merchants but nobody wants to take on high risk merchants as it damages their reputation as well are fined heavely by card companies for excessive chargebacks. We, at CCAvenue, however do not carry that view and look at every application with a clear honest view. Today if you see, we have more eight hundred IT companies in India,Singapore and China whom we provide our payment processing services too. There are nearly four hundred web development companies situated in 78 cities and towns accross india, who resells our services. For small Individual or sole propriter s who start with selling webhosting / domain name packages, we do start them out with netbanking / cash cards/ debit cards and after some time, when they have won the trust of our Risk team, we do allow the credit card options. Today, we power over 90% of India’s websites.

Also, we do provide motto facilities (i.e. card numbers taken on the merchant site instead of redirecting to CCAvenue) provided the merchants systems are PCI Compliant, and they have their dedicated servers with a 256 Verisign Global server Id (This is mandated by Credit card companies).

Today we offer 6 credit cards, 8 Debit cards, 26 Net banking options, ITZ cash card, Paymate mobile payments processing and we are constantly adding new payment options. We give free risk management services which are the best in South Asia which saves crores of rupees of our merchants. Our merchants dont have to pay any chargeback fees ( $ 10 for every chargeback transaction with all foreign gateways like paypal etc). Our merchants dont need to have dedicated servers or invest in verisign cert ( about usd 500 annually) or be PCI compliant ( about USD 11,000 per year) and dont have to pay any money for money transfers or for our 24 by 7 merchant support. Our best plan starts at a 3.75% charges with no flat fee (for eg 0.30 cents per transaction that paypal charges i.e. INR 13/- per transaction, over and above their percentage charges). We agree that there is a steep one time setup fee for the credit card merchant account abd the ccavenue account but that money is required by us to comply with the card company rules, tie-up with newer banks and give fanatical support to our merchants and their customers. We can assure all of you that no payment gateway in the world delivers that many payment options and give value as we do. We are proud that we help over 90% of India’s merchants reach their online business goals by providing our tension free payment processing services.

Please dont treat the above as a marketing pitch, but its a true statement of what (125+ Avenuities) are trying to achieve here at Avenues.

    Warm Regards,

    Susan (contact@ccavenue.com)

    • 75 Prasad October 4, 2010 at 4:40 pm

I recently applied for online payment to ccavenue. They rejected my application because domain registrar name/address did not match with the firm owners/address. And the service offered by http://www.gspfinancials.com seemed risky to them!

It seemed really ridiculous to me to reject credit card processing (while making me a great favour of providing net banking and debit cards processing option) just by looking at the product/service offering on website. Gspfinancials.com offers online stock tips and thru sms. Can Mr Susan explain what are the risk factors for ccavenue in this case?

And about comments of Mr. joshi – are you all sleeping when a person/company makes fraud of lacs/crores of rupees? Why don’t you monitor account activities that go out of certain limit? Why don’t you ask for explanations on time?

I don’t want to say that verifications done by PG companies are not necessary. But PG companies should understand the potential in this business and come up with easy, fast & user-friendly solutions.

  53. 76 Shiv September 23, 2008 at 2:26 pm

    Hi

Looks like my statement has been taken to heart by Susan. I do NOT wish to malign anybody.

However the fact still remains that .

IT Companies are restricted by CC Avenue. In fact, if I am not wrong, post VBV/MSC the chargeback liability lies with the issuing bank rather than the acquiring bank. So major risk is removed. May be CCAve could do a preliminary check on the credentials before any blanket decisions.

VBV/MSC is the way to go even though they may seem cumbersome. I totally agree with Susan/Prem Joshi. World over millions are participating. I would feel unsure if we do not have these in place. Look at it this way, Your Card Number, Expiry, Name on Card, CVV can all be known by the ubiquitous waiter of your neighborhood restaurant. So what does protect you? VBV or MSC only.

On the whole we have had ICICI for close to 5 years now without any major hassles.

No Offense meant to any organization…. ICICI/CC Avenue/Transecute/UTI/HDFC/Citibank/XYZ

Also these are my personal views and not my organizations.

  66. 89 Manjusha February 4, 2009 at 11:23 pm

    Hi,

I’m planning to build a small ecommerce website. The products would be delivered to Indian addresses, but orders can be made from anywhere in the world. The amount would ultimately be credited to the seller’s bank account in India. I’m considering Paypal’s “website payments standard” as it is the cheapest option that I have.

I have some basic questions about Paypal payments, and credit card transactions in general. Please look at the Math below. I’d be happy if you can answer my questions.

Suppose a buyer from India purchases a product on my site costing 100$/5000Rs. Paypal would levy a transaction fee of 3.4% + 0.30$ which amounts to 3.70$. So, 100-3.70=96.30$ would be credited into my Paypal account at the end of the transaction. Is that all or are there any more deductions?

When I withdraw the amount, I understand that I’ll get the INR equivalent of 96.30$ on that particular day into my Paypal account. When I transfer the amount into an Indian bank account, will there be any further service charge, education cess, conversion charges, etc? If yes, how much (in %) would the additional deductions sum up to? And, who imposes these deductions – the bank or Paypal?

How much would the buyer’s credit card be charged in total? Will it just be 100$ or is there a forex factor involved as his Indian credit card is being charged in USD? Can you tell me, in %, how much is this charge?

Finally, one basic question about credit cards. Lets say I buy something online for 100$/5000Rs. Paypal/Merchant’s bank contacts the credit card company and the credit card company authorizes the payment. The item gets shipped. When would the amount be credited into the merchant’s account? If that happens exactly at the time of purchase, the merchant would get 100$/5000Rs. But if that were to happen after 2days, and lets say the $ value drops to 48 after 2 days. So, will the credit card company just transfer 100$/4800Rs to the merchant’s account or will it transfer 5000Rs? This might sound silly, but I had this doubt since some of my credit card transactions appear with a latter date on my statement. I have never used my US credit card for purchases in India, so I don’t know how it works.

    Pls advice!

As author of this blog to bring to everyone’s notice have been using EBS-Axis Bank services for last 1 year and have been pretty much satisfed by the same.

Was really unsatisfied by ICICI hence the post but now at bit of peace but things would be much better with a centeralized service like Master card or visa available unifying all the net banking infrastructure of banks in india.

If some one need help with their payment gateway requirements do leave comments here will try to help

    HI,

I am 100% agree. Do not ever try to use the ICICI Payment gateway. The Support Team is worst in entire world. The techenical team dont know anything techenical things when you call they they will say write in email and give you 5 different email to cc the same. but you will never get any response then call them in mumbai again they will tell you he will call back to you and they call you maybe that time you were busy or doing something else.

So in one word, DO NOT EVER USE THE SAME.

  74. 97 Shiv April 21, 2009 at 8:55 pm

    Hi,

Lots of queries here and confusion. Let me try my best to solve these… All answers in Indian scenario.

    1. What type of Payment Gateways? Paypal/Credit Card/Debit Card/Itz Cash/CC Avenue? What’s all this. H@@@@@lp !!

A payment gateway is technically a method for transfering money from the user to the merchant account by some means. This can be done in essentially the following ways only..

    a)Credit Card, Debit Cards
    b)Prepaid Cash Cards
    c)Net Banking

There are extensions to the above…
i)Mobile (Extension of an electronic Wallet which stores one or more of pre-authorized above modes.) Eg. mChek, Oxicash
ii)Site/Account (Similar to above except with a trusted site) Eg. Paypal
iii)Aggregators (Who do all this stuff for you and give you a unified interface) Eg. CCAvenue.

So in effect a Payment Gateway will be facilitating one or more of a, b or c primarily.

    2. Which one to choose?
I think you should answer that. What type of customers you have? Where are they located? What currency will they be paying in? What mode do they prefer? Card Vs. Bank Transfer Vs. Prepaid Cash Cards

    3. What gateway should I use?
    Pure Credit/Debit Card Gateways (Master/Visa)
    ICICI
    HDFC
    Citibank
    CCAvenue
    Transecute
    Axis to name a few.

    For AmEx there are others.

For Pure NetBanking tie up directly with the corresponding banks.

For Pure Cash Cards you have to again tie up with individual providers like ITZ Cash.

    4. Aggregators where you get the complete bouquet.
    Paypal
    CCAvenue
    mChek
OxiCash etc. to name a few.

This is not an exhaustive list. Also with an aggregator you can get all the above in one basket. The quetsion is do you need that?

I am not the bible on this topic, so pardon if I am wrong somewhere.

    -Shiv

ICICI PG is the worst among the pg’s. The support team is very poorly trained in handling queries and their RSM -south is a big dumbo who never responds.

They call themselves as best pg – poor people.

    CC Avenue is far better.

How about the service of HDFC and Axis pg

    Hello all,

We own legit IT consulting company in US and would like to use the PG in India if we can get desired service. 100% of our clients are in US since we specialize specifically in American Industry due to legal purposes. If anyone here who knows the procedure for Merchant Account PG in India, what banks offer these services for an offshore business, who has the best service, please e-mail me at presschioustaz@aol.com since I can not expose our company at this time but we will entertain any reasonable offer and are willing to take a SERIOUS look at suggested options after we disclose our operations with the concerned entity. We have approached ICICI, AXIS and Bank of India have been stuck in bureaucratic rut for the past 3 weeks. ICICI doesn’t even have a dedicated phone #!!! and they’ve given us the worst runaround I’ve ever seen. It has come to a point that if we can’t find suitable service we are almost willing to pay higher fees in European countries.

    Hi,

I have looked up all the options available on the net for a decent payment gateway provider over the last three weeks.

I have a few questions I need help with:

    1. If I was to display my charges in $ but if the payments are made in other currencies, how much will I loose in the form of currency conversion?

    2. If I’m expecting very low volume initially, which provider would suit my needs with the lowest start up costs and low % per transaction rates?

    3. Are there any catches if I were to go with a company in the USA rather than in India?

    • 106 Sid Puri September 28, 2009 at 1:27 pm

      Hi Ashish,

      answers to your questions below

      1. If I was to display my charges in $ but if the payments are made in other currencies, how much will I loose in the form of currency conversion?

Ans. It completely depends on your settlement bank and more importantly on your shopping cart conversion rate. For instance if you take an Indian Payment gateway it wont let you accept payment in USD you can display rates in USD and before sending user to payment gateway page you would need to tell customer what is the currency conversion rate you have taken and he will be charged in INR. In this case customer would be loosing money instead of you. If you take a USD payment gateway with some international service provider in this case you will be losing money between currency fluctuation which could range between 0.25-0.5% per settlement.

      2. If I’m expecting very low volume initially, which provider would suit my needs with the lowest start up costs and low % per transaction rates?

It depends where your commerce is . If you are based out of India and are primary looking at payment gateway for export purposes it still make sense to have indian payment gateway as it will help you to build credible banking volume history and also save you from lot of FERA/FEMA/IT tax laws which can hamper your business long term growth.

      3. Are there any catches if I were to go with a company in the USA rather than in India?

No catches as lot of US payment gateway companies are very credible and have secure gateway and payment dispute resolution system. Payment gateway selection has to be part of your long term financial service provider selection strategy as with increase in volumes from e-commerce the payment history with your banking provider can help you with lot of other financial services like OD,Business Loans etc you may need.

I think my question may need more clarification…

I am talking about creating/becoming a service such as PayPal,Authorize.net,EBS, Direcpay or CCAVENUE….

Reply me as soon as possible…

    • 112 Shiv October 21, 2009 at 12:25 pm

      For Rahul:

Technical Front: You need to tie up with individual providers and have your system in place. Then you shall need to expose a web service/URL for presenting a simple and single interface for all payment methods you provide. This is the easy part.

Regulatory Front: This is more tough as you need some clearances from regulatory bodies. Not very aware of the nuances in this aspect.

    Hi all,

It took me a lot of time to read all the posts. The suggetions and views are being changed… Now people like me are confused… to whom should we choose…

My suggestion, guys, when you choose a payment gateway, don’t choose any vegetarian website. Means a website with more links like bulk sms, register domain, resellers, so on…

Choose the provider who provides only payment gateways… I suggest ccavenue or billdesk.

    Hello guys,

I see a lot of you searching, discussing, confusing and arguing about Payment Gateways in India.

    Let me summarize:

    The known PGs are:

    1. ICICI Payseal
    2. EBS
    3. DirecPay
    4. CCAvenue

some says one is good and another is bad. Almost all payment services lack, one or more features. Some time none of them work.

I am working in the e-commerce space for over four years. To my knowledge, Paypal gives you better service in the International and Payseal in the Indian context.

If you could define your requirements fully, you would be able to choose a PG easily.

the downside is that the processing charges and set up fees are higher when compared to International gateways.
feel free to mail me at rameshelamathi at gmail dot com.

We offer flower n gift delivery service in Delhi NCR through http://www.fngstore.com and have found paypal to be the best to go with for SMEs and new startups in ecommerce.

Otherwise the payment gateway scenario and services in India is real bad, the amount of paper work, the incomplete integration kits, the high transaction charges, security deposit are a big deterrent.

Living in INDIA really sucks. paypal freezes your account for no reason at all. 2checkout wont accept your bcoz your products are not acceptable and what do i have to tell abt these indian payment processors, other than that they SUCK BIG TIME. All require too fucking much of paper work.

INDIA SUCKS, just move to other country with your fucking money people.

    • 135 Arjun November 13, 2010 at 11:06 am

      hey Raj,
I was considering PayPal. Whats wrong with PayPal? they seem to have it all setup?

Can you explain “paypal freezes your account for no reason at all.”.

and “2checkout wont accept your bcoz your products are not acceptable”.

So as a seller dont they Verify your type of business? So you dont get turned down during the transaction?

Also what sort of PayPal account are you using? (there are 3 types imo)

      please let me know.
I agree with the rest, in the sense of the frustration. I run a company and too much red tape no wonder we never getting anything useful done in this place! 😉 heh

The Best Payment Gateway I Tested Till Now is The ALERTPAY service even paypal also having issue for Indian payment as now days as they are not accepting payment from india to india only accept payment form other then india whole world due to RBI issue and indian payment gateways are the big mess and they want setup fee, recurring fee and many hidden conditions we are using Alertpay for our two websites and payment is by Credit Card (Amex, Visa, MC) all three popular credit card brands are supported

Just signup and verifiy the account like paypal but they also need to upload the scan copy of your register certificate of firm or proprietorship etc and your terms and conditions should be explaned clearly in your website and also your refund policy that’s it and you are become the online merchant they send you the payment by wire transfer.

    Options for withdraw is:

Refill your credit card (5 USD)
Bank Transfer by Wire-transfer. (15) USD
Cheque Payment and send to address: (10 USD)

you can maintain multiple currency in your account this also supports INR.

    regards,

    BSBDM

    Hi

I have applied for EBS payment gateway for my site ,have paid the setup fees in advance and have submitted all documentation.Just like many others here who have commented about the 30 day approval process.iam also waiting to comment on my experience if approvals do come within the stipulated period.Iam still inside the 30 day window so its too early to comment on.

They have activated a few netbanking options and some crappy cash card ones which iam not sure if anyone will ever use.CITIbank approval was promised in 7 days but it has not been activated for net banking yet.

Iam hoping things have changed a lot after 2008 when this article was created. It is 2011 now so i hope EBS activates all my payment options within the promised time frame.

  117. 155 BSBDM July 20, 2011 at 2:04 pm

Hi Now you can signup for 2Checkout account now they are the only option after paypal stop processing the payment in India now days they are offering the free signup.

    No monthly gateway fee.
    No Application processing fee

    • 158 BSBDM July 23, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Hi You can go either for 2Checkout or Transecute Indian payment gateway there is not upfront fee or monthly recurring free flat transaction fee of 5% +45 cent on 2 checkout and on Transecute there is 5% transaction fee.transaction.

    • 159 Ajay Sharma July 23, 2011 at 5:23 pm

Go for EBS , they are the most professional, helpful and has a robust system. We (www.fngstore.com) have been with them for more than 2 yrs with all praises for their service.

  119. 160 Archit July 25, 2011 at 9:29 am

Thanks BSBDM & Ajay.We are targeting customers in US/UK & India. Do we need to have different payment gateways for US/UK & India?

Also, what is the process for getting approval for the gateway service? What documents are needed? We are a startup & not sure about this. Please help.

    • 161 BSBDM July 25, 2011 at 10:51 pm

For US/UK you can go with 2Checkout option is the best for India you can use any of the payment gateway as per your budget as they all have the setup fee and yearly maintenance fee and transaction fee also high if you want low TDR then you have to pay them high setup fee like initial deposit which is not refundable.

Choice is your we are using 2Checkout and AlertPay for our website earlier we used paypal but due to some issue with RBI they stopped payments for India.

You can signup for 2checkout and alertpay free after that follow the instruction on screen to verify the account you need to provide supplier identity form for 2checkout and business doc for alertpay and it will be activated and start to accept the payments within two to three days.

If need more info then let me know i will help you for the same you can call me at contact me at bsbdm@hotmail.com

  128. 174 BSBDM November 21, 2011 at 1:42 pm

I haven seen some new Indian payment gateways coming in market now days… they are not the payment processors but they are the resellers of banks like…

ipayin is the website which uses the ICICI Bank Payseal for CC processing.
global-pay-inc needs refill your global-pay-inc account with your bank account like to transfer money to their account after that they credit your account with the money you send to them by deducting the transaction commissions etc.

These payment gateway services provided by banks can be withdrawn by any time if there are more charge backs..

So be careful before selecting the PG for your sites.

While you may need to do a coconut oil dandruff treatment
several days in a row at first, you should eventually be able
to do it only once a week once your dandruff is under control.
If the child choked on the oil, it could be aspirated in the lungs.
Persons with a propensity to lose hair should take a well-balanced and correct diet, made
up of foods which, in combination, should provide all the necessary
    nutrients.

High heat and chemicals can destroy the MCFAs and Lauric
Acid in the coconut oil and therefore greatly decrease any potential health
benefits. In these areas of the world, there is usually less access to meat, but people do have access
to virgin coconut oil. Another form of processing oils is known as hydrogenation.
